Shakespeare’s play was updated brilliantly by a team of writers – Hajco Bodewes, Renée Gommers, Jet Nitsche and Floor Veldmeijer – who auditioned for the job. The set for the play was simple but most effective, with a wonderful tent downstage in which a crucial amourous encounter was to take place. Contemporary summer clothes and mobile phones combine very well with Shakespeare, too.
"Much Ado about Nothing" is a story of romance and misunderstanding - on a camping site!
Before handing over his company to his daughter Hero, Leonato brings together the staff of all his offices on a teambuilding trip on a camping site. Claudio, a rising star in the business, is very much in love with Hero. Benedick, his friend, claims that every woman in the world could fall in love with him - except perhaps Leonato's niece, Beatrice, who claims to hate him.
Penelope, Benedick's friend and colleague, comes up with a plan to make Benedick and Beatrice fall in love with each other. Her sister, Jordan, comes up with a plan to ruin the camping trip and convince Claudio that Hero is cheating on him.
Dogberry, the decorated ex-military camping site owner, his partner Verges and activity organizer Francis soon realize they are not receiving the easiest group of guests. Or is it all... much ado about nothing?
